03. Book pick: Alex & Me

This is a feel good read for all! "Alex & Me" chronicles the 30-year relationship between an African grey parrot named Alex and the author, which changed how scientists have viewed birds' cognitive functions. The author, Irene Pepperberg, was able to teach Alex over 100 words and answer questions about colors, shapes and numbers.

04. Audio pick: Bird Dog Q & A with Justin McGrail of the Upland Institute

Justin is a professional trainer and co-producer of the Upland Institute video series. Tune in to this hour-long episode of Bird Shot Podcast as he answers questions about what to look for in early bird-dog development, knowing when a dog hunts for itself versus hunting for the hunter, what to do when the desire to chase outweighs the desire to point and dogs not retrieving dead birds.

Quote of the Week

"Let’s face it: hunting is a lot of fun and work. It takes determination, patience, and perseverance to chase down that elusive bird. But when you do get it, there’s nothing like it."
