02. Audio pick: 'We are Rivers'

Hosted by American Rivers, the "We are Rivers: Conversations about the Rivers that Connect Us" series was launched to further conversation about the benefit and complexity of our rivers.

Our favorite topic is "Climate Change - Understanding the Science Behind It," which has a Part 1 and 2.

"The Lost River" by Richard Bangs.

03. Book pick: 'The Lost River'

A pioneer of international rafting expeditions, Richard Bangs' main goal was to raft Ethiopia's Tekeze River — one of the last great unrun rivers of the world. This captivating, emotional memoir takes you through his first attempt to raft the deadly river, his next attempt many years later, and how this great triumph finally closed a cracked circle.

Veteran adventure writer, Bangs has authored 18 other books and his essays and articles have appeared in The New York Times, Slate and The Huffington Post, among other places. "The Lost River" won the National Outdoor Book Award in the literature category, and the Lowell Thomas Award for best book.

The book is fairly inexpensive on Thriftbooks and Amazon.
